¡Sí, Se Puede! Yes, We Can!
Janitor Strike in L.A.
Francisco Delgado, Illustrator
Francisco Delgado created this vibrant artwork to illustrate the children's book ¡Sí, Se Puede! Yes, We Can! Janitor Strike in L.A. The book, by Diana Cohn, tells the story of the April 2000 Los Angeles janitors' strike through the proud eyes of a child. Three weeks after 8,000 members of SEIU Local 1877 put down their mops and brooms and went on strike—and after receiving unparalleled solidarity from other workers, unions, students, educators, religious leaders and elected officials—the janitors won a contract that brought them a living wage and respect for the work they perform.
