 Most workers become part of the AFL-CIO when their organizations affiliate with a national union that is part of America’s labor federation. Some organizations prefer to affiliate directly with the AFL-CIO. Affiliating with a national union brings unparalleled strength and support within a common industry or labor market, but not every organization finds that a viable option.
