Leadership Education and Development: The National Labor College

Leaders and activists from AFL-CIO unions find a rare opportunity for leadership education and development at the National Labor College (NLC)—the only accredited college in the world exclusively dedicated to union leaders, members, activists and staff.

At steeply discounted fees for AFL-CIO affiliates, NLC classes are designed to give participants skills they’ll need to build their organizations—while accumulating credits for college degrees.

The National Labor College offers more than 70 week-long continuing education classes covering arbitration, organizing, negotiations, workplace safety and health and more, many that result in specialized certificates.

The college also offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in various areas of labor studies and a Bachelor of Technical/Professional Studies degree. Master's degree programs in Public Administration and Legal and Ethical Studies are delivered by the University of Baltimore at the college’s George Meany campus in Silver Spring, Md.

Many AFL-CIO affiliates also take advantage of the NLC’s conference facilities that include meeting rooms, overnight accommodations and dining services for conferences, workshops and staff retreats.
