The Poster Child for Corporate Greed: Winners and Losers of the Week

Each week, we take a look at the biggest friends and foes of labor. We celebrate the workers winning big and small battles, and we shame the companies or people trying to deny working people their rights.

Winners: Workers for New Jersey Transit, after a coalition of 13 unions reached a tentative agreement to avoid a strike at the nation’s third-largest commuter rail line.

Runner-Up: The El Paso, Texas, City Council, for voting to amend local ordinances to allow the city to withhold licenses from businesses found guilty of wage theft.

Loser: Verizon, which the Communications Workers of America (CWA) has labeled “the poster child for corporate greed.”

Runner-Up: The Freedom Foundation, for ramping up its anti-union activities to include an extensive door-to-door canvass in Washington state.
