Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on the wildfires in Northern California:
It is absolutely heartbreaking as yet another natural disaster tears through our country. But as awful as it is to watch the destructive wildfires in California, it is just as inspiring to watch the selflessness and heroism of those fighting it. America’s fire fighters define bravery by risking their lives to save others. While their union is on the ground, taking care of their members on the frontlines and who have lost their homes, we are keeping them, and all those in the path of danger, in our thoughts and prayers. After the fires, the entire labor movement will join in the efforts to rebuild the damaged communities.
