This year, for Black History Month, we're taking a look at a group of leaders who are currently active making Black history across the labor movement. Check back daily for a new profile and meet some of the people working to improve not only their community, but also to improve conditions for working people across the country. Today's profile is Charles Hall Jr. of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU-UFCW).
Charles Hall Jr. has deep roots in the labor movement with RWDSU-UFCW Local 108, where he was first elected president in 1998. Hall is an international vice president with UFCW, an executive board member of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO and a first vice president of the Essex-West Hudson Labor Council. A tireless union leader and political organizer, he serves as chair of Working Families United for New Jersey (WFUNJ). Under Hall’s leadership in 2014, WFUNJ helped register 40,000 voters in the city of Newark as part of a campaign to raise the minimum wage.
