Service + Solidarity Spotlight: PASS Brings Voice of Front-Line Workers to 5G Technology and Aviation Safety Debate

Working people across the United States have stepped up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our regular Service + Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.

The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS) released a white paper earlier this week analyzing the impact of 5G wireless technology on aviation safety. This was in response to squabbling between the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Communications Commission about 5G deployment, as well as to a congressional hearing on the subject at which the FAA administrator and industry representatives testified.

“While the hearing was informative,” said PASS National President Dave Spero, “it was missing the voices of frontline workers who actually have to respond to 5G deployment.” The crucial work PASS-represented employees perform at the FAA has the potential to be impacted and is why the union felt compelled to turn to members for their first-hand experience. “They have the expertise to thoroughly examine the issues around 5G in the service of aviation safety,” Spero said.

The union’s white paper was entered into the congressional record.
