Bus Tour Joins South Carolina AFL-CIO Convention to Highlight New Initiative on Union Rights

AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond speaks at the South Carolina AFL-CIO Convention.

The “It’s Better in a Union” bus tour made its latest stop in Greenville on Wednesday to join the South Carolina AFL-CIO Convention to rally workers in support of a new organizing initiative in the state to ensure all workers know our rights.

AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond and South Carolina AFL-CIO President Boris Gibson held a press conference with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear about the South Carolina AFL-CIO’s new AWARE campaign initiative, the bus tour, and organizing efforts in the South. AWARE is designed to ensure all workers in South Carolina know they have the right to form a union and are equipped with the tools to win.

“We’re here in Greenville today to lift up the South Carolina AFL-CIO’s bold and dynamic initiative to empower and educate workers about their rights, how to organize workplaces, and the life-changing power of a union job,” Redmond said. “This is exactly the kind of action we need to transform the South…and the country. A union job offers hope. It offers promise. It offers security. And with the leadership of the South Carolina AFL-CIO on unions across the state, we ARE going to make sure EVERY worker has a fair shot to join a union.”
