On behalf of the AFL-CIO, I am writing to express our support for the Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations Minibus (H.R. 4502), including the Labor-HHS-Education, Agriculture, Energy and Water, Financial Services, Interior, Military Construction, and Transportation HUD appropriations bills, which is scheduled for floor consideration this week.
The Labor HHS portion of the Minibus recognizes the importance of investing in workers, worker protections, health, and education, and it wisely builds on the efforts of the administration to reverse the longstanding inequities that have been deepened by chronic underinvestment in programs and services. Specifically, the Labor HHS portion of the Minibus increases funding for all three major departments and for most programs and activities. Overall, discretionary spending for Labor HHS portion of the bill would have a historic increase of 28 percent.
We strongly support the Appropriations Committee’s effort to provide adequate funding in the FY 2022 appropriations process, and H.R. 4502 is a prime example of these efforts. We urge you to support H.R. 4502 and ask that you oppose any weakening amendments.
