Dear Representative:
The undersigned organizations representing a wide array of American civil society urge you to discharge and pass HR 2550, the Protect America’s Workforce Act, without delay. This bipartisan bill rescinds Executive Order 14251, restores federal workers’ fundamental right to collectively bargain, and restores their union contracts. On March 27, 2025, President Trump issued Executive Order 14251, which stripped a million federal workers of their right to collectively bargain. That executive order is not just an attack on federal workers or unions -- but an attack on all of us, as the labor movement is one of the most essential bulwarks against authoritarianism. Ensuring that federal workers have access to a voice on the job is critical to an efficient and effective federal government. Worker voices, backed up by union representation, blow whistles on unlawful or wasteful activity and establish workplace rules that ensure safety and fair treatment. Taxpayers, including the communities that rely upon services delivered by federal workers, are better served when those workers have a voice. A majority of the House of Representatives – 222 Members from both parties – have cosponsored HR 2550. It is time to pass it. Please move to discharge this bill by signing Discharge Petition #6 and bring the bill to the House floor as soon as possible. For the right to bargain, democracy, the Constitution, and good government, please pass HR 2550.
Signed:
