Letter Supporting Nomination of Gigi Sohn as FCC Commissioner

Dear Senator:

I am writing to urge you to support the nomination of Gigi Sohn for Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Throughout her career, she has been a staunch advocate for the expansion of affordable and reliable internet access and for addressing the digital divide in both rural and urban areas. Her expertise and her commitment to bringing reliable and affordable high-speed broadband to every corner of this country would make her a welcome addition to the FCC.

Ms. Sohn also recognizes the value of the telecommunications workforce. She helped raise the need to protect the jobs of working families during the merger of TMobile/Sprint; indeed, she has emphasized the needs of working people and underrepresented communities in all her work.

As our nation begins to implement the historic investment for broadband expansion provided by the recently enacted Infrastructure and Investment and Jobs Act, we need a fully staffed FCC to work hand in hand with the rest of the federal government to ensure that we achieve our aspirations for universal access. We need an FCC that will ensure both that consumers are protected in the evolving telecommunications sector and that workers’ views are considered in an ever-changing industry.

Ms. Sohn’s career in advocacy and public service has equipped her with the credentials and expertise to serve as an FCC Commissioner. The Senate should not allow this nomination to be sacrificed by Senate Republicans hoping to score political points by smearing this highly qualified nominee. We urge you to support a quick vote in support of her nomination.

Sincerely,
William Samuel
Director, Government Affairs
