Dear Senator:
On behalf of the AFL-CIO, I am writing to urge you to vote to confirm Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo as the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. Governor Raimondo has a proven record of economic leadership that created economic opportunity and tens of thousands of good-paying jobs for all Rhode Islanders.
A bold, progressive Governor, Raimondo invested in a wide range of infrastructure projects that supported the creation of good family sustaining jobs with wages and benefits that provided a pathway to the middle class. With the creation of the nation’s first offshore wind farm, Governor Raimondo demonstrated that investing in clean energy does not mean sacrificing good union jobs. Raimondo also became a national leader in her response to the COVID-19 pandemic and supported an increase in the state’s minimum wage.
We are confident that Governor Raimondo will bring the same leadership qualities that produced one of the nation’s fastest growing economies, while supporting the rights of workers to have a voice on the job, to the task of being the next U.S. Secretary of Commerce. We urge you to vote in favor of her confirmation.
