Washington, DCWorkers have a fundamental right to job security, a decent standard of living and the right to organize on the job. Employers' attacks on these basic workers' rights are increasing while workers' rights to organize are being deeply eroded. The Jobs with Justice coalition, founded and supported by the labor movement, has worked tireless for nearly a decade to build local coalitions of community, religious and labor organizations in cities across the country. Through its efforts, including its innovative Workers' Rights Boards, Jobs with Justice has helped build community-wide support to mobilize activists in support of every worker's right to organize a union and to have a voice in conditions on the job.The AFL-CIO Executive Council supports Jobs with Justice and encourages national and international unions, state federations and central labor councils to work cooperatively with the coalitions in their communities. The AFL-CIO Organizing Department and Field Mobilization Department look forward to cooperative efforts with Jobs with Justice coalitions on campaigns to organize new members, to focus public attention on abuses in the workplace and in the community and to mobilize support for struggles for justice and dignity. The AFL-CIO will provide financial and staff support for Jobs with Justice that will assist the coalition in coordinating with central labor councils in their cooperative efforts to broaden community and religious participation in support of organizing, to expand and develop strong community coalitions and in the formation of Workers' Rights Boards in many communities.
