Executive Council Statement

On the Service of Rich Santa

The AFL-CIO Executive Council recognizes the distinguished service of Rich Santa, former president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA).

A veteran air traffic controller, Santa spent most of his career serving NATCA and its members through a number of leadership positions. He served on NATCA’s national executive board as the eastern regional vice president from 2018 to 2021 before being elected as the seventh president in the union’s history in 2021.

As president, Santa was a leading voice for the stable and sufficient government investment necessary to maintain and modernize the national airspace system, and to ensure it was adequately staffed with trained and certified aviation safety professionals.

As a member of the AFL-CIO Executive Council, Santa’s vision and leadership were tremendous assets on the International Affairs, Legislation/Policy, Organizing, and Political committees.

Rich Santa has served America’s labor movement and working people with honor and a deep commitment, and we wish him well in his next endeavors.
