The unions of the AFL-CIO are united in opposition to the recall of California Governor Gray Davis. We intend to mobilize union members across California to speak with a strong and single voice against this unwise and dangerous action precipitated by the unfettered political ambitions of the state’s right-wing Republican ideologues.
California is facing serious problems, problems that require serious leaders. The current recall effort, started just one month after Gov. Davis’ election, is a blatant attempt to grab power and must be resisted. The recall will cost $70 million dollars and will produce an uncertain future for our nation’s largest state.
We call on all state leaders in the Democratic Party to stand united with the governor, and stay off the recall ballot.
