The AFL-CIO Executive Committee expresses its full support for Linda Chavez-Thompson, AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Emerita, who is running for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Texas.
Sister Chavez -Thompson made history as the first person to hold the post of Executive Vice President and the first person of color to be elected to one of the federation's three highest offices. Her election as Executive Vice President as part of the Sweeney-Trumka ticket in 1995 represented an historic change for the AFL-CIO and the recognition of her lifelong dedication to the cause of organized labor.
Linda is one of America’s most revered and respected labor leaders. She also currently serves as a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. A little over two years after retiring from the AFL-CIO, she has decided to take her four decades of experience to another level to help working families in the state of Texas.
We offer our labor sister -- a tireless advocate for civil, human, women’s and worker rights -- our full support as she seeks this office.
