Among the many things we could say about Bob King, the first has to be that he is an organizer to his core.
His groundbreaking strategies to help workers organize at auto transplants and auto suppliers, to organize the South and to work with global partners are bearing fruit, and they have taken us a great distance forward.
While leading negotiations with Ford during one of the most difficult times ever known to the American auto industry, Bob King helped ensure a future for both the workers and the automaker.
He has always understood that our unions must represent today’s workers, but also the workforce of tomorrow.
On the AFL-CIO Executive Council, Bob King served with dedication and vigor on several committees, including the Executive Committee, and he chaired the Strategic Approaches Committee.
The members of the UAW have been fortunate to have a leader with such a strong commitment to innovation and quality. And the working people of America have been fortunate as well.
We will miss Bob King on the Executive Council and wish him a long and happy retirement.
