New York City's school administrators are facing an unprecedented effort to dismantle a system of academic tenure and replace it with five-year contracts. Tenure has secured parents and students well by protecting school administrators from arbitrary and capricious dismissal, while insuring that incompetence results in dismissal.
Therefore, the AFL-CIO Executive Council joins with the New York State AFL-CIO and the American Federation of School Administrators in urging that these unwise proposals be rejected.
