Letter to Senators in Support of Judge Robert L. Wilkins' Nomination for an Appellate Judge

Dear Senator:

On behalf of the AFL-CIO, I urge you to support cloture on the motion to proceed to the nomination of Judge Robert L. Wilkins to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and to vote for his confirmation.  Judge Wilkins is superbly qualified to serve on this court.

Judge Robert L. Wilkins is a respected jurist and recognized litigator who received his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He has a strong record of public service, including his successful efforts to establish the National Museum of African American History and Culture and a decade of service at the Public Defender Service (PDS) for the District of Columbia.  He has a deep commitment to the representation of the underserved and his litigation experience both at the Public Defender Service and in the private sector led to his unanimous confirmation as a judge to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.  He has served as a conscientious and fair-minded jurist, and the American Bar Association has unanimously rated Judge Robert L. Wilkins as well qualified to serve as a judge on this court.

Judge Robert L. Wilkins is a lawyer of distinction who understands the important role of courts in upholding and enforcing the rule of law.  The AFL-CIO is pleased to support his nomination and we urge you to vote for his confirmation.

Sincerely,

William Samuel, Director
Government Affairs Department
