Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on the passing of American Postal Workers Union (APWU) National President Emeritus William Burrus:
I join with my brothers and sisters at the APWU—and across the labor movement—in mourning the loss of President Emeritus William Burrus. He was an unabashed advocate for his fellow postal workers and an unwavering fighter in the struggle for social and economic justice.
We are all better off for Brother Burrus’ lifelong commitment to working people, including his service on the AFL-CIO Executive Council. While we have lost a friend, his barrier-smashing legacy is embedded into the fabric of the APWU and the entire labor movement.
