Veteran activist to oversee federation’s data, analytics and infrastructure efforts
The AFL-CIO has tapped Nick Gaw to head its Data, Analytics and Infrastructure Resource (DAIR) team, leading the extensive data and technology operations at the heart of the federation's organizing, advocacy and political campaigns. Working closely with the federation's 55 affiliated unions as well as state and local bodies, Gaw will keep the labor movement on the cutting edge, developing and deploying tools, and using technology and data to empower working people.
"For the last decade, across the progressive movement, Nick has captured the power of innovation and technology to advance the cause of social justice,” said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. “He's a tireless activist, and I'm excited to see him bring that experience and talent to the House of Labor."
Gaw comes to the AFL-CIO from Avaaz, a global digital activist network, where he served as Technology Director and previously as Senior Technology Advisor. He has also served as Director of Engineering at the Democratic National Committee and in several positions at Change.org and the New Organizing Institute. He studied history and linguistics at Swarthmore College.
"It's an honor to be joining this incredible team," said Gaw. "People are joining together through collective action on a level we haven't seen in a long time. The DAIR team is doing the work of translating that energy into real change for working families, and I can't wait to be a part of that effort."
