Statement from AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on Jim Murry’s death:
The entire labor movement is saddened by the death of long-time Montana labor leader Jim Murry. Working people in Montana have lost a true champion. Jim never backed down from a chance to fight for working families. At 33, he was elected the youngest head of the Montana AFL-CIO in 1968. He was a force in state politics during his 23 years as the federation’s leader, tirelessly advocating for the issues most important to working families. When the job landscape changed, he rose to the occasion by starting a worker training program that retrained displaced workers. His legacy will live on forever. We offer our sincerest condolences to Jim’s family and friends.
