WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the results of last night’s Iowa caucuses, Working America Executive Director Karen Nussbaum (@knussbaum) issued the following statement:
“We hear anger and frustration every night as we talk to people on their doorsteps. While Donald Trump didn’t prevail yesterday in Iowa, voters in working class neighborhoods will continue to be drawn to the divisive rhetoric of right-wing politicians absent face to face engagement that disrupts the non-stop media deluge fueling the fire.
‘Last night’s results suggest that ground game that engages and invites voters into a dialogue about the future of our country is far more persuasive than non-stop television promotion.”
BACKGROUND:
On January 28, Working America released a new report based on more than 1,600 face-to-face conversations with white working class swing voters in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The report probes the increasing appeal of right-wing economic populism and its impact on an important bloc of swing voters.
