Working people across the United States have stepped up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our Service & Solidarity Spotlight series, we'll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.
After more than a year of negotiations, workers at Daniel Boone Regional Library (DBRL) in Columbia, Missouri, reached a tentative agreement Wednesday with management on a three-year contract. The contract creates a new wage scale, guarantees 5% annual raises, lowers health insurance costs and implements extreme heat protections for workers, and other gains.
“Our full membership has been so supportive,” said Ida Fogle, a member of the Daniel Boone Regional Library Workers United executive board and a member of the bargaining team. “It really was everyone pulling together, and the community, too—the community showed up for us. There’s definitely been a lot of tension, a lot of frustrating times, but it’s also been great to learn about the power of solidarity and collective action.”
