AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler released the following statement in response to President Trump’s executive order withdrawing the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change:
The U.S. currently leads the world in energy production, investment in clean energy, and job growth in clean energy and its supply chains. The U.S. achieved this historic leadership while simultaneously leading on negotiations under the Paris Agreement on climate change.
We can continue to lead, but not by putting American workers and American interests on the sidelines while our competitors move forward and negotiate agreements about the future of energy without us. The Paris Agreement catalyzed clean energy investment and export opportunities around the world, creating good union jobs for U.S. workers. The U.S. labor movement will continue to urge the United States to stay in the agreement so we can achieve the best outcomes for America’s workers.
