Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka in response to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and other NY state leaders including prevailing wage as part of an agreement on 421-a construction projects:
We all know that you get what you pay for, and the decisions by Governor Cuomo and New York’s legislative leaders to establish prevailing wage will ensure quality housing made by workers earning a good wage.
Across our country, we have seen prevailing wage under attack. The attacks against working people simply trying to make a good living while building a better America have done nothing but promote an anti-worker, pro-corporate agenda that stacks the deck for the top one percent.
This action to ensure a good wage for workers shows that the tide is turning on this important issue. As we move forward to build a raising wages economy, it will be dedication of leaders like Governor Cuomo and so many others who are fighting for good wages, better working conditions, and a voice in the workplace, that will make the American dream a reality.
