May 22, 2014, BERLIN, GERMANY – Today is day four of the World Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) being held in Berlin, Germany.

Highlights from today include:

  • Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Wins ITUC’s World’s Worst Boss Poll

Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon was announced as the winner of the ‘World’s Worst Boss Poll’, beating out Wal-Mart CEO C. Douglas McMillon and Charles Koch for the dubious honor. With over twenty thousand votes cast, Bezos was chosen due to difficult working conditions at Amazon warehouses, where workers are forced to walk as much as 15 miles a day, and staff is required to wear Orwellian personal tracking devices to monitor every move.

  • AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler Leads Sub-Plenary on Union Growth

Recognizing the need for workers to organize, one of three sub-plenaries during the ITUC Congress has focused on expanding power for working people. AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler has chaired sub-plenary discussions focused on new organizing opportunities and the goal of adding 20 million workers to the union movement in the next four years. Shuler stated:

“Workers everywhere deserve a voice and an opportunity that can only be earned through organizing. If we fight the forces of inequality and injustice as individuals, we will always lose. If we come together as working people and demand to be heard, we can truly change the world for the better.”
