Statement from AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler on the House impeachment inquiry:
Today’s vote by extremist House Republicans to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Biden will go down as yet another pathetic and dangerous stunt by a hyper-partisan group of politicians who are more interested in political retribution than governing.
Congressional Republicans should focus on keeping the government open and enacting legislation that will improve the lives of working Americans. Instead, they want to undertake sham investigations, hold our economy hostage and slash federal funding for desperately needed social programs while giving tax cuts to the wealthy.
While President Biden has focused on reducing unemployment, creating good paying union jobs, building our economy and lowering prices for consumers, including for prescription drugs for seniors, extremist House Republicans have focused their attention on baseless and false allegations. This is why the AFL-CIO endorsed President Biden and Vice President Harris for re-election—because they put working people first.
