AFL-CIO Applauds House Passage of CHIPS Act, Calls for More Support for Working People

Statement from AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler on the passage of the CHIPS Act (H.R. 4346) in the U.S. House:

We applaud the House for passing the CHIPS Act so that it can be sent to the president’s desk and signed into law. America can and must remain at the forefront of innovation and research, and this bill will allow us to do it safely and more efficiently. It is encouraging that lawmakers were able to come together and find common ground to pass legislation that will help working people and strengthen our manufacturing industry. We call on our legislators to continue their work and collaboration to fill the harmful gaps in our trade policy and curb the behavior of foreign nations like China that perpetuate job loss, depress wages and hollow out U.S. production.

Through major investments like the CHIPS Act, we can keep building a resilient and robust economy that will support working people and put us on the path to long-term success.
