Today on a press call, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, AFT President Randi Weingarten and Bricklayers President Jim Boland highlighted the devastating impact the Republican tax bill will have on working people.
“President Donald Trump and the GOP are hustling for a tax plan that would change American life in terrible ways by cutting services, killing American manufacturing, outsourcing jobs, weakening our economy and undermining our future. Instead of giving a gigantic tax cut to the rich, Congress should focus on funding our domestic priorities, not just defense. That means fixing at risk pensions, protecting Dreamers and TPS recipients, providing Puerto Rico relief and extending CHIP.”
- AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka
“I didn’t think it was possible, but the Republicans have managed to use their conference committee to make the tax bill even sweeter for the rich. And they're going to pay for it by raising taxes on the middle class at the same time cutting their local services like public schools, police and fire.”
- AFT President Randi Weingarten
“This bill was rolled out as tax reform but it is anything but. It is a transfer of wealth from working people to corporations. It will not create jobs or do anything to raise the standard of living of working people. We need policies that allow us to upgrade our failing infrastructure that doesn’t measure up to the rest of the world.”
- Bricklayers President Jim Boland
