Statement from AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler on today’s Partnership for Workers’ Rights announcement:
Today’s Partnership for Workers’ Rights announcement from President Joe Biden and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva represents a major step forward for the rights of working people. The new global initiative reinforces both administrations’ commitment to creating an economic agenda that supports good union jobs around the world. The Partnership for Workers’ Rights lays out priorities for the Brazilian-led 2024 G20 and 2025 U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP30) and underscores Biden’s recognition that unions are critical to creating an economy that works for all working people, not only at home, but also abroad. This is what solidarity looks like—two of the world’s largest economic powers coming together to recognize the role of empowered workers in advancing economic and social models that work for workers and the environment
We are grateful to President Biden and President Lula’s vision and their continued support for the labor movement and working people across the globe.
