America has lost the nation’s premier expert on collective bargaining and mediation. I lost a great friend and incredible mentor. But the legacy of Bill Usery lives on forever through the irreplaceable knowledge he passed on and the everlasting contribution he gave to the lives of countless working Americans.
Bill defined integrity, and had a constitution of steel. I’ve seen him grind through five straight days of around-the-clock negotiations and never lose focus. I’ve seen him break through tough negotiations after everyone had lost hope. While we mourn his loss, I am forever thankful for nearly four decades of friendship and for every working person who enjoyed a better life because of his work.
