In the State of the Union last month, President Obama highlighted the importance of providing hardworking families with paid sick time. Today, Congress is taking the first step towards giving workers the leave they deserve with the introduction of the Healthy Families Act. Introduced by Senator Patty Murray and Representative Rosa DeLauro, the act would allow millions of workers to earn up to seven days a year of paid sick time which workers could use to care for themselves or a family member without worrying about lost wages.
Too many people are still being forced to choose between getting a paycheck and taking care of a loved one. Let’s pass the Healthy Families Act and make sure no worker has to make that choice again.
