Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on House Republican leadership’s decision to leave town without passing a long-term highway and transit funding bill:
Speaker Boehner is once again showing a complete disregard for the priorities of working people. Every Member of Congress should remain in Washington until the job of passing a long-term highway bill is done.
The only thing worse than the condition of America’s roads and transit systems, is the approval ratings of Congress. If House Republican leadership intends on regaining the trust of working people, they should start by passing a long-term surface transportation funding bill that creates jobs and ensures economic stability.
