“Retail workers do the hard work of taking inventory, stocking shelves and checking out customers that allows companies like Target to reap billions of dollars in profits. It's encouraging to see Target catch up to the movement of retail workers – a movement calling for retail jobs to be good jobs with decent wages and regular hours.
There's a clear connection between Target's decision today and the power of collective action by everyday people. Last year, Minnesotans came together and won an increased minimum wage. This year, Minnesota retail workers with Working America are supporting a fair scheduling bill that would help end erratic scheduling faced by hourly workers.
When workers join together to change the policies of large employers, they change their communities for the better. Today’s decision is the result of a growing movement to build stronger communities and families by insisting that retail jobs be good, quality jobs.”
