A Resolution On William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library
WHEREAS, in the near future, construction will commence on the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the library is a monument to the many achievements of former President Clinton; and
WHEREAS, the labor movement and President Clinton enjoyed many years of mutual support and respect; and
WHEREAS, some of the contractors selected to build the library pay their craft employees substandard wages and few, if any, fringe benefits; and
WHEREAS, it disserves the interests of the Clinton legacy to permit the construction of the library by employers who fail to provide living wages and good fringe benefits to working people.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the AFL-CIO strongly urges the parties developing the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library to re-examine their construction contracting policies, and to use only those construction contractors who provide fair wages, fringe benefits, and registered apprenticeship training opportunities for their employees; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the AFL-CIO strongly encourages the library’s developers to negotiate a Project Labor Agreement to achieve fairness for construction craftspeople employed on the library and will take all appropriate steps to ensure that result; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that immediately upon the adoption of this resolution, the AFL-CIO will transmit this resolution to the developers and all other parties having an interest in the library.
