Letter to the Members of Congress Who Voted to Block the Presidential Election Results Seeking Evidence to Support Their Baseless Claims

Dear Member of Congress:

America inaugurated Joseph R. Biden Jr., the 46th president of the United States, this week. This sacred ceremony came after you voted no to certifying the election on Jan. 6, 2021.

As soon as Joe Biden was declared the president-elect, then-President Donald Trump and many of his allies asserted fraud. But in the two months since, the courts have rejected every single attempt to negate the will of the people. There was no credible evidence of voter fraud, deceased people voting or machines switching votes.

Make no mistake: The allegation of a stolen election helped incite an insurrection. Five people lost their lives due to the Jan. 6 riot, including a member of the U.S. Capitol Police.

Therefore, because you voted to block the results of the election, I am requesting you furnish any proof of fraud that led to your decision to override the will of the people.

Working people of all political leanings are doing more than ever to keep our country whole. We are looking for leadership to beat this pandemic, create economic recovery and address racial injustice. We’re ready to move America forward.

What we will not tolerate is four years of baseless, unfounded claims of a stolen election, which are meant to subvert our democracy.

Please do not provide us with discredited allegations, conspiracy theories or simply fail to respond to this request, as that would further reinforce workers’ belief that you are trying to deny our will and dishonor the oath you took and the constituents you are sworn to serve.

It’s time to put your cards on the table so the working people of America can see them.

Sincerely,

Richard L. Trumka
President, AFL-CIO
