Service & Solidarity Spotlight: TWU Ratifies Three-Year Contract with NJ Transit

Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 2001 members at NJ Transit ratified a new three-year contract with 80% of the vote. The new contract goes into effect on July 1 and covers 180 car inspectors, car mechanics and coach cleaners. It includes 3% pay raises for three years, Veterans Day as a paid holiday, one additional paid sick day and does not include any givebacks to NJ Transit, “ensuring that previously won improvements to pay and benefits stay in place.”

Service & Solidarity Spotlight: Cultivators at Columbia Care/The Cannabist in Vineland, New Jersey, Join UFCW Local 152

The majority of 12 cultivators at the Columbia Care/The Cannabist facility in Vineland, New Jersey, signed cards to join United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 152. The union was certified by the New Jersey State Board of Mediation on Oct. 6. The cultivators at the facility grow and process cannabis, overseeing its production and preparing it for sale to consumers.

United Steelworkers (USW) Local 4-200 nurses on strike at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital were joined on the picket line by New Jersey State AFL-CIO officers—President Charles Wowkanech (IUOE) and Secretary-Treasurer Laurel Brennan (Workers United)—hundreds of union members, union leaders, activists and elected officials. The message was clear: management needs to bargain in good faith and offer a fair and equitable contract that includes safe staffing ratios for essential health care workers.
