In Recognition of Caregivers, White House Readies to Help Nursing Home Workers

Last week, President Biden announced comprehensive government actions to improve access to quality child care and long-term care. The executive order signed by the president directed an array of federal programs at Health and Human Services, the Veterans Administration, and other departments to do more to meet the care needs of working families who rely on either paid or unpaid caregivers to participate in our economy and our society.

Delivering for Working Families

A young couple is expecting their first child. They have done everything right–installed a baby-seat in their car, assembled a crib, even checked out what hospital is in their health plan’s network. When it comes to the big day, however, the young couple gets a bundle of joy and a whopping bill for thousands of dollars! Turns out the doctor that delivered the baby actually worked for a medical staffing company that contracted with the hospital and was out-of-network!

Has the Supreme Court Shielded Us from Trump Administration Health Care Rules?

The Supreme Court last week handed down a landmark decision barring employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity⁠—a significant step forward in the full inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in the workplace and in broader society. While this case is an important advance in civil rights, it may also undermine the Trump Administration’ s new health regulations designed to eliminate existing civil rights protections.

New Trump Rules Are a Sneak Attack on Medicaid

There are the things politicians say, and then there are things they do. When Donald Trump was running for office, he promised there would be no cuts to Medicaid. As president, he promised “health care for everyone.” His aides promised “no one will lose coverage” and “no one will be worse off.” These promises sounded great and reassured voters.
