Nearly 200 members of Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) Local 390G went on strike against International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) in Memphis, Tennessee. The BCTGM members produce soy protein products used by companies such as Nestlé, Nestlé Purina and Abbott Nutrition to manufacture baby formula, pet foods, soy-based nutritional powders, and other food and beverage products.

Members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) working at Nabisco plants throughout the United States take great pride in producing the iconic products that have been a part of millions of Americans’ lives for more than 50 years. Workers at five Nabisco locations in the U.S. are currently on strike. 

Following a request for support of Nabisco-Mondelēz workers that was sent to the Vatican’s Peace and Justice Office by the general secretary of the International Union of Food Workers (IUF), faith leaders from across North America are escalating the call for fairness.

The BCTGM’s campaign against the outsourcing of North American Nabisco jobs has generated widespread support. From U.S. Congressional leaders, university students, union trade and justice activists to American veterans and consumers, the message carried by Nabisco workers across the nation has resonated loud and clear: Stop the global exploitation of workers that is devastating families and communities.

A Federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Just Born against BCTGM Local 6 (Philadelphia) workers who went on strike in 2016.
