Service & Solidarity Spotlight: IAM and Boeing Reach Tentative Labor Deal, Potentially Averting Strike

Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) at Boeing reached a tentative contract agreement that averts a strike that would've begun Thursday if no deal was agreed to. The contract covers approximately 33,000 workers and includes 25% raises over four years and improvements to health-care costs and retirement benefits, and a commitment from Boeing to build its next airplane in the Pacific Northwest. The workers will vote on the deal on September 12.

Service & Solidarity Spotlight: UAW Members at Cornell Approve New Contract, Ending Strike

Members of the United Autoworkers (UAW) at Cornell University voted to approve a new contract with the university, officially ending a 15-day estrike. More than 75% of the members voted yes. The $43 million contract covers four years and provides raises of 21%-25.4%. The contract also eliminates the tiered wage system that had been a major sticking point in negotiations, provides lump sum transition payments, and COLA protections.
