On Jan. 24, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen passed a bill requiring any development project totaling at least $1 million and receiving any form of city funding or tax incentives to pay workers the prevailing wage, the usual hourly compensation and benefits paid to a majority of workers in the area. Board Bill 88, sponsored by Alderman Sarah Wood Martin, also applies to housing projects that include more than 20 units.

Our latest roundup of worker wins begins with nurses banding together to make patients' lives better and includes numerous examples of working people organizing, bargaining and mobilizing for a better life. The end of 2019 saw a flurry of wins for working people, so this is the first in several posts over the next week that will cover the victories of the last quarter of the year.

The Greater Boston Labor Council (GBLC), AFL-CIO, made history last week with the election of the first woman of color to its top office. Darlene Lombos (IUPAT) takes over as executive secretary-treasurer, replacing Richard Rogers (IUPAT), who officially retired after leading the GBLC for the past 16 years.
