The backbone of Nevada’s gaming and hospitality industry, more than 98% of the 60,000 members of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226-UNITE HERE and thousands of other union members have been laid off since the pandemic began. Now, Nevada’s labor movement is swiftly responding to the unprecedented scale of need among union members and their families.

As concertgoers fled the mass shooting at the country music festival outside the Mandalay Bay in Clark County, Nevada, at the end of the Las Vegas strip, dozens of off-duty firefighters attending the concert sprang into action. Twelve were among the wounded by gunfire.
